Telescope planet appear to have ceased trading. While I feel this is for the general good of astronomy I do feel for the poor souls that have open orders with them. Good riddance.
I do wish I found this site before placing an order with telescoeplanet! For other's at least I see you are missing on the promotional items, mostly. For me they have removed a part of the order itself. I ordered for a Skywatcher 6mm widefield eyepiece and a Skywatcher UHC filter. They shipped the order only with the eyepiece and NOT the UHC filter! There was no confirmation from their side after I placed the order. When I sent them an email after two days, Neil got back to me saying the order is delayed because UHC filters were not in stock. After receiving the package when I saw the filter is missing, I sent Neil an email immediately. This time Simon replies asking for the order date and refund amount. After I sent the details, there was a long 10 days gap during which I sent at least 5-6 emails and attempted numerous phone calls. Then when I wrote another email, Simon replies back again, asking "what date was the order". Since then I sent 2 emails with no response yet. In between, I saw that they have gone out of Business. I believe my hope for refund is mostly gone, but will try whatever way I can. If anyone here can give me any advise, it will be much appreciated.
I ordered a Celestron CPC800 just after Xmas, after several phone calls the scope arrived with the solar filter. But the "free" items and a paid for Dew shield have not. I have tried emails and phone calls but now get no reply at all. I wonder if they gone bust. I have just emailed again to Debs and given them 5 working days before I go to visa and trading standards.
Ordered and paid for a telescope and in 15 days no confermation if item is in stock.Sent 3 emails and no reply. Next step is the British Embassy in Malta.
I have never written a review before but felt I needed to warn others about Telescope Planet. I ordered an ETX-80 and case for it in early January 09. The scope was advertised with promotional lense, moon filter & red torch. The scope arrived but the promotional items were not included and the case was not the recomended or requested case. I called and then emailed Simon (the owner) and explained. Then after numerous emails and calls "eventually" the propmotional items arrived but yet again they had sent me the wrong case for a different model. In addition this was clearly not brand new and looked like a used shop demo. I now have two cases of theirs neither of which I want. I had to chase for a month to get my invoice and they have still been unable to collect the cases after 6 weeks of me chasing them although they want them back before they refund. I then saw an eamil copied to a colleague saying basically saying, "can you deal with this guy I can't be bothered". It has been long and painful trying to resolve these matters. Unfortunatly this appalling attitude and coustomer service is endemic within Telescope Planet, I am extremely far from satisfied. I wish I had read the reviews first as I would never have used them and certainly will never use them again. My scope is unopened 8 weeks after it arived as they have quite simply deflated my enthuisiam for my new scope!
I spoke to Neil enquiring about an etx125. He was very honest about the pros and cons of the scope and gave me other options but not once did he try to hard sell me anything. Very friendly and helpful.
One of the very worst experiences I've had. I paid £399 by internet for a telescope. It arrived faulty/damaged and the trouble I had in sorting out the problem was beyond disgusting!.Neil the manager and the rest of the team just had no idea of dealing with my issues within a month of payment. I was totally polite on all the phone calls that I made to them. I think they make their money on the phone calls and not the sales. Never again!
I'd read / heard of many others having problems with this company, I thought they can't be that bad and ordered something from them. Well they are that bad, all the issues you read in the horror stories have happened to me over the last month. It's got to the point now where I've spent more in phone calls than the item cost me. I'm at the stage now where I've given up all hope of getting my goods or a refund and this issue will have to go to Trading Standards and the small claims court.
I don't know where to begin with this company. I bought a new telescope from them, and it arrived next day by FedEx - great I thought. I then ordered some accessories, CCD, eyepieces, camera adapters etc and the stuff starts arriving piecemeal, despite the website claiming to have the items in stock. No explanations at all, and chasing up the kit is left pretty much to you, the customer. I'm still waiting for stuff more than four weeks after purchase and I get no feedback from Telescope Planet whatsoever until I start complaining (assuming I can get somebody to answer the phone). I'm beginning to wonder how they stay in business; I can't decide whther they are bumbling and incompetent or just plain lazy. Either way, they'll not get another penny out of me.
I purchased an ETX-80 Telescope from these people just before Christmas 2008. I was initially impressed with their website and considering the had pictures of Patrick Moore on the site I assumed they must be respectible. I ordered the scope along with a dew shield. There was also an offer of free binoculars and a red led torch which I thought was great. I called them up to check the availability of this scope and was told that they had plent in stock. I waited a week until I had been paid and called up to place the order. I was told that they only had one in stock that had been opened to show a customer in the showroom but it had never been used. I was told that they had been waiting for a while to get some in stock which contradicted what I wa told the previous week. I was offered free next day delivery to Birmingham where I live and als the would throw in a computer cable and software to control the scope from my laptop worth £40. I accepted this and the next day the scope arrived. So far so good. Upon opening the box, the dew cap I ordered was missing along with the free binoculars and red led torch. I called them up and spoke to someone who's name I shall not mention and told them the problem. By now Christmas was upon us so they prommised to send the missing items out but could non guarantee when they would arrive. I accepted that mistakes do happen and this could have been an oversight due to how busy they could be at Christmas. Well Christmas and New Year came and went and no items had arrived. The scope was for sale for £119 plus around £16 for the dew shield. My statement arrived and I had been charged close to £160. I called them up and spoke to the same non mentioned person and explained how non of the items had arrived and I had been overcharged. Upon them looking at their system they had seen that I had been charged for 2 dew shields that I had not even recieved. They prommised again to refund the difference and send me the dew sheild and offered tu upgrade the free torch to a better spec one for free. I was so suprised at how matter of fact they were about the mistakes they had made. They agreed to sende the goods out recorded delivery. It is now the 9th January 2009 the goods arrived as prommised but the dew sheild is the wrong one and does not fit, so now I have to phone them to put this right. In my opinion the amount of free items and deliver these people have to give away to cover their mistakes it is a wonder they are still in business. STEER CLEAR OF THESE PEOPLE AT ALL COSTS. They are unproffesional and lazy.
